Butylated hydroxy toluene is a fat soluble synthetic antioxidant, which is primarily used as food additive because of its ability to preserve fats. It is also used in cosmetics as it helps fighting against the deterioration of cosmetic products caused by chemical reactions with oxygen. BHT is also popular for pharmaceutical uses for its antiviral property.
